INTRODUCTION

Lockheed-Martin Skunk Works at SMU and Viper Solutions have combined resources to present the Next Generation of maritime ship protection. We call it the Poseidon Project.

Today's robotic technology and Viper’s software featuring advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) are combined to provide Ship Owners with a sophisticated defense system to prevent boarding by pirate attacks.

Early detection at more than 5 miles range of an approaching unidentified boat allows the creation of a virtual “Safety Shield” one-mile wide around the perimeter of the boat, with autonomous drones attacking the hostile boat outside the Safety Shield and on-board robotic defenses set to eliminate any boats that may penetrate to a close approach to the ship.

Here's How It Works

All of the ships defense systems are controlled by a sophisticated Computer Control Center (CCC) installed on the Captain’s bridge. Once the CCC has been programmed with the Missions Specifics and the Rules of Engagement, all defensive activities are autonomously performed, needing only the push of a button to begin.

Attack Stage I

Acting upon an alert sounded by the CCC, the System Operator (SO) pushes a button and the first drone is automatically launched. The Poseidon Project drone is an advanced (and smaller) model of the drones currently used in Afghanistan. Poseidon drones use AI to eliminate the need for a pilot to be in control. The drone will be directed by the CCC to the suspected boat and will send high-definition video back to the Capt.'s bridge and await further instructions. The SO on the Captain's bridge can push a button to eliminate a hostile boat, or push a button to have the drone return to the ship.

If the hostile boat was able to avoid the attack by the drone(s), and were to approach closer to the ship, a high-powered laser would be used to pinpoint the approaching boat and blind the operator to forward vision toward the ship.

Attack Stage 2

At this stage air cannons in Sentry Turrets located at strategic points around the perimeter the boat would be activated. Sentry Turrets can be either lethal or nonlethal.

When activated, (by pushbutton at the Capt.'s bridge) The Sentry Turrets react autonomously. They react to the visual image within their range, select the approaching boat and analyze the range, direction and speed of the boat and calculate the impact point as they fire. This turret can shoot .68 caliber rounds of choice, including gas, solids or liquid of choice, at a rate of 100 rounds per second.

Attack Stage 3

In the unlikely event that Pirates approach the side of the ship, a downward firing cannon produces a fireball that rolls along the water and would engulf any boat in its range.

What does it cost

Insurance costs vary proportionally to a risk factor. Studies have shown that lower insurance costs may pay the entire cost of the Poseidon Project, and in some cases may realize a savings over and above the Poseidon Project cost. We will be happy to provide case studies.

In ancient mythology, the Greek God Poseidon was known as the protector of the vast oceans and seas.

Poseidon would calm the seas and provide gentle trade winds to those who reached out to him, or call down thunderbolts and storms from on high, even earthquakes, to those infidels and unbelievers who defied his mighty powers.

In today's world there is a search for a more modern system to protect ocean going vessels.

The Poseidon Project promises to be the answer.
